For many of us, fall is a great time to head outside to enjoy the fresh air and cooler temperatures. In fact, we can’t wait to relax with friends or host a cookout. But is your backyard ready for guests? If you’re looking for more ways to dress up your backyard beyond just raking the leaves, try these tips from Kellie Clements, TIKI® Brand lifestyle expert and HGTV Design Star Fan Favorite. Whether you try one or two or try them all, the end result is a backyard oasis that’s ready for fun.
Reuse it: Repurpose old furniture instead of buying new. Items like old planters can be used to hold drinks or even a smaller side table when flipped over. Another way to save, check local garden and home stores for end-of-summer clearance items.
Light the night: Lighting is so important to an evening event and can be functional as well as set the mood. Look for torches that are lit from within and also have a flame such as the TIKI® Brand Glowing Torch and Table Torch for ambient party lighting. Or consider paper lanterns that use LED lighting, and string them across your patio or deck.
Double duty: You don’t have to have a big backyard to entertain. Select items that have multiple uses to save space. Garden stools are a perfect example because they serve as a place to rest a cup or plate as well as additional seating for guests.
Laid-back vibe: For outdoor entertaining, it’s better to create a casual environment than a formal setting. Serve finger foods instead of a sit-down meal, and don’t forget the tunes! Just don’t play the music so loud that you can’t enjoy a conversation, or worse, disturb the neighbors.
Heat it up: To ward off the autumn chill, include a firepit on your deck, patio or in the backyard. Thanks to today’s firepit manufacturers, you don’t have to break the bank to have one. Plus, there are numerous styles available, so you’re sure to find one to complement your outside décor.
Fall entertaining provides a wonderful time to come together with friends to relax and enjoy one another’s company. Having the right space to make sure everyone is comfortable couldn’t be easier. Try one or all of these tips, and let us know which ones are your favorites.
